Preserving the Workshop
To whom it may concern,
Within the AEA, concerns are growing about the future of the workshop in R26. Students were promised access to this space for their projects, but in practice, that promise does not seem able to be fulfilled.
Nearly all semester projects within our program rely heavily on this workshop. Without access, first-year projects cannot provide sufficient practical experience, all semester projects will be significantly hindered, individual student projects could no longer continue, and graduating students would face serious implications.
Moreover, the disappearance of the workshop will significantly impact the choice of prospective students and their future master’s programs within our institute; students tend to choose institutions that offer adequate facilities.
"Realization" is a nationally defined core competency that every engineer must possess. Without access to the workshop, students lose the opportunity to develop this essential practical skill. This not only puts the quality of the education at risk, but also raises doubts about the credibility of the degree.
With our current course, the program will suffer considerably from the loss of the workshop. HAN works closely with industry partners, and our curriculum is directly shaped by market demands.
An engineer must understand how a company brings ideas into practice, and that includes having hands-on experience with workshop tools and processes. In the professional field, engineers without this practical insight find it harder to function, making them less valuable to companies.
There are countless reasons why our program needs a properly functioning workshop. Students, strive for a high-quality education and a valuable degree.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, demand the preservation of our workshop and with it the continuity of our program.
Kind regards,
On behalf of the undersigned
